This Year's Model Updates:

A new five-speed automatic tranny provides a second overdrive ratio, resulting in greater fuel economy and reduced NVH in models equipped with the 4.7-liter V8. Chrome front tow hooks are now included if you get the skid plate group on the Limited model, while the Laredo model offers a Special Appearance Group package with 17-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels, colored metallic front fascia and body cladding, body color license brow and liftgate handle, fog lamps, body side stripe, and leather seats. A hydraulically driven engine-cooling fan improves fuel economy on the 4.7-liter V8 and a quarter-turn fuel cap improves efficiency at the gas station. Limiteds get an AM/FM stereo with cassette and CD player as standard equipment, along with new "Euro-style" gathered leather seats as optional. The Trailer Tow Group now includes an underdash connector to make plugging in aftermarket trailer wiring harnesses a snap. Finally, child seat tethor anchors improve the Grand Cherokee's family-friendly nature while a LEV-compliant 4.7-liter V8 makes this Jeep more earth-friendly.

Pros:
  • Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
Cons:
  • Quadra Drive whine, mushy seats detract from long-haul comfort, spotty reliability.

Ive had my jeep from 2005 and got it with 150k on it I now have 256k jeep is still running great but did not get there easily. I had the computer go a couple of years ago and did nt know what was wrong until I brought to the dealer and the dealer told me it would be a couple of grand to fix for a new computer eventually I found a shop to put a used one in and the vehicle was fixed. Other than that the engine and tranny is still running strong but I have a small knock and I had another mechanic tell that the head need to be replaced. Simple fix at advance auto $30 bottle to seal that actually worked great. The Jeep is like a tank through bad weather of the NE no stopping it

I purchased this vehicle new and it has been one of my favorites. The styling and ride are great and the reliability has been quite good. Like all GCs of this year, the front brakes were horrible but once the solution was found, I cant complain one bit. The answer to the brake problem is to replace the pads and calipers with a brake kit from the Jeep dealer. Basically its the same setup found on the 2003 model! Ive had this vehicle on long trips and off-road in the woods of Pennsylvania. It has performed very well. Would I purchase another one? You bet!

As one of the few I can say that brakes have not been my major complaint. Up until a few months ago I had no complaints at all. Sadly it now appears that at 47K I need a major engine overhaul. The coolant level warning light comes on once a month. Entire system has been inspected by dealer and no external leaks have been found. Leaving one possibility.

  • so far ,so good - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We have had a few problems, but overall very good luck with this vehicle. 123,000 miles on the car. Break rotors warped and replaced 3 times. Chrysler finally paid for a really good set of slotted rotors (class action suit) and we have had no problems since. A few lights have burned out and a seat heater went out. Overall very pleased with the SUV. Love the smooth, tiny, but powerful V8 engine.

My 2001 Limited is great. The exterior styling is sharp while the interior quality is exceptional. Ive owned 28 vehicles since I started driving and this is one of the best vehicles that I have owned. And no...my previous fleet did not include Gremlins, Pintos or Ygos! My Jeep experience has ranked up there with my Infiniti and Lexus experiences.

  • Love That Jeep - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I just recently bought my Jeep, and I can tell you that it is one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. The acceleration is top notch; it will even keep up with some of the best sports cars. I love the interior. The seats are so comfortable. The controls are laid out well, and I love the steering wheel audio controls. The sound system in the vehicle is almost as good as some aftermarket systems. I really like the body style and love the 17" wheels and tires. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone who wants a very competent on/off road SUV.

28000 miles and only one problem. The heated seat on the driver side doesnt work and I have yet to take it to the dealer for repairs under the warranty. I have the selectmatic transmission that I have not seen on any other Jeep Grand Cherokees, but I am glad I do. It gives me the option of 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive. It appears others have had trouble with the Quadramatic Trans.

The 2001 jeep (v8) has excellent, smooth power and gets the exact same gas mileage as our 6cyl.(17 city,19 hiway). Acceptable smooth ride for a 4X4. Has been very reliable so far with only a few small problems (seat heater and warped brake rotors). Dealer very responsive and good to deal with. We dont like the leather seats, too slippery and uncomfortable. Drivers hand and elbow position on the steering wheel awkward and uncomfortable. We love the car and would buy another.

  • Problematic Vehicle - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

After a year of having my GC, I had one problem after the next. In the last year, the window regulator has had to be replaced on the passenger and driver side. Also, the check engine light has gone on at least 6 times, and all repairs were very costly and usually required new parts. Finally, my transmission randomly gave out after exiting the highway one day. Ive had my check engine light go on twice in one week for completely separate problems. This was my first Jeep and will most certainly be my last due to the reliability issues. The good things about this car are overshadowed by all the repairs-at the rate Im spending money on it I could have bought an 07 instead of going used!
